Tyndrum

Another in our series of guides to the towns and village of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs. Many of which are excellent staging posts for accommodation, supplies and food & drink ahead of an adventure in the surrounding countryside.

Tyndrum, close to the northern boundary of the National Park, is an excellent example of this. Once a stopover for drovers, travelling from the Highlands, the village is now a lively and bustling stopping point for drivers and walkers.

West Highland Way

The West Highland Way route approaches the village along a lovely pathway, before coming out by the famous Green Wellie Stop.

The distinctive and well known Green Wellie Stop has a shop, café, grocery shop and petrol station. It is one of the many places to eat and drink in the village.

From the village, the  West Highland Way path heads north, initially adjacent to the A82. If you’re stopping off for some food and drink, I recommend a short walk north or south along the pathway. Here is some of the scenery that you can expect to find in and close to the village.

West Highland Train Line

Tyndrum has two railways stations, Lower & Upper Tyndrum. Upper is on the Oban branch of the West Highland Line, originally part of the Callander and Oban Railway.

Above the Green Wellie Stop, one of the places to stop and refuel before heading towards Glencoe in the Highlands. Tyndrum is the last stop in our A82 Road Trip guide.
