Trossachs Osprey Hide
See and PHOTOGRAPH Osprey near Callander
We are always excited to share new visitor experiences in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs. Trossachs Osprey Hide is one of the many projects I've been lucky enough to be involved in through my marketing business. The hide near Callander allows visitors to view and photograph Ospreys and other wildlife up close.
New Trossachs Osprey Viewing Hide
In 2023 I created a website for the newly opened Trossachs Osprey Hide, where you can book a session to visit. Four slots are available during the day, with a capacity of four persons per slot, ensuring a quiet environment that won't frighten the wildlife. After a successful first season slots now fill fast.
Osprey and Wildlife Viewing, near Callander
Ospreys have been visiting the fish farm (the hide's location) for many years and regularly swooping down to take fish from the ponds. So, the owner and manager of the farm thought it would be an excellent idea to share the experience they get to enjoy every day that the birds are here.
Each slot is 4 hours long, and Osprey can visit any time. There are beavers on site, and as well as Osprey, you can see other birds from the hide. I'm writing this whilst patiently waiting for an Osprey to come, and when one did, we first heard its high-pitched whistle whilst circling above before swooping down to fish from the pond directly in front of the hide. You can see some of the pictures in this article. I'll warn you, though, it happens incredibly quickly, so set your camera on continuous focus and shooting.
Where to see Osprey in the Trossachs
Seeing and photographing the Osprey was a memorable experience; I've previously seen them at Lake of Menteith, Balmaha and Loch Katrine, but never as close as this. You'll need to wait patiently within your slot, but it's worth it. Whilst Osprey are not guaranteed to visit, of course, they usually do within each of the time slots, and sometimes you can get lucky with multiple visits, and there are thought to be at least five that visit. I was also fortunate to see this Grey Heron.

As mentioned, bookings can be made via the Trossachs Osprey Hide website. Once booked, you receive confirmation details with the exact location, directions, and instructions. The hide is a 5-minute car journey from Callander and has a port-a-loo toilet and dedicated parking spaces.
I am sure I will regularly visit the hide and look forward to updating this guide with photographs of Osprey enjoying the Trossachs countryside.
