Loch Chon, The Trossachs

Favourite Lochs

I keep changing my mind about which lochs in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs are my favourites. Loch Chon has gone right up my league table, thanks to some fantastic kayak experiences.

Loch Chon is in the Trossachs. From Aberfoyle follow the signs for Stronachlachar, passing first Loch Ard before arriving at Loch Chon. A little further along the road are Loch Arklet and Loch Katrine, with Loch Lomond accessible at Inversnaid.

Loch Chon Campsite

The National Park has a campsite at Loch Chon, which you can pre-book. As mentioned, this loch is a favourite location for kayakers, mainly because of the easy access to the water from the car park. It is also popular with open water swimmers.

Parking at Loch Chon

The small car park is just before the official campsite (when coming from Aberfoyle). I’ll regret sharing this information if it is always full from now on!

Loch Chon has a few small islands and many beautiful views. Here are some photographs of the view from my Kayak. Take care if you’re getting out on the water by kayak, canoe, or stand up paddleboard.

The Trossachs Trail

In 2021 there has been a major revamp of the Trossachs Trail with a new website, information boards and renewal of the brown road signs that guide the route. The trail was set up in the 1990s and you can read more about it in our guide, as well as the official website that we created for it.
