Wet Weather Days

This guide offers plenty of options for making the most of your visit to Loch Lomond & The Trossachs, even if the weather turns wet. But don’t worry—it never rains, right? How many photos on this site feature rain?

All jokes aside, being prepared for a rainy day is essential. Start with suitable clothing for wet weather—it rarely rains all day, so you can often walk, cycle, or kayak during a brief shower. If you’re in a village, it’s the perfect excuse to duck into a cosy pub or café to warm up with great food and drink.

On days when the rain is more persistent or the forecast looks bleak, especially if you’re traveling with children, you may want some indoor alternatives to pubs. This guide offers suggestions for indoor activities that will keep everyone entertained, whatever the weather.

Distilleries near Loch Lomond and Trossachs

For whisky enthusiasts or anyone keen to experience Scotland’s distilling heritage, there are two excellent distilleries near the National Park, each offering a unique insight into the whisky-making process and the opportunity to sample some fine whiskies.

Glengoyne Distillery, located near Killearn, sits at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill and is often referred to as one of Scotland’s most picturesque distilleries. Glengoyne is renowned for its slow distillation process, producing smooth and complex single-malt whiskies. Visitors can enjoy a variety of tours, ranging from introductory tastings to in-depth experiences that include sampling whisky straight from the cask. With its beautiful setting and rich history, it’s an unforgettable visit.

Deanston Distillery, near Doune, is housed in a converted 18th-century cotton mill on the River Teith. Known for its organic single malts, Deanston combines its industrial heritage with a focus on sustainability. Guided tours showcase its unique production methods, and the café and shop provide an opportunity to relax and take home exclusive whiskies.

Both distilleries offer an excellent way to escape the weather and enjoy Scotland’s famous national drink. Check opening times and tour availability before your visit, as these can vary depending on the season or special events.
