Loch lubhair and Loch Dochart
Where are Loch Dochart and Loch lubhair?
You will find first Loch Dochart and then Loch lubhair when heading east on the A85 from Crianlarich. The River Dochart connects both of these neighbouring lochs. These are two of the quieter, lesser-known lochs in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, which is surprising as they are close to the very busy A85 road.
Loch Dochart
Look out for a layby on the A85 with the loch close to the road but obscured by trees. People cutting through from the layby to lochside has created an unofficial path. Looking out across the loch, you can see a small wooded island in the middle of the loch. On the island is a ruined castle that dates back to the late 1500s.
To get closer to the island, I have previously attempted to kayak across, only to find the water too shallow. More recently, I used a drone to get some better views of the castle.
Loch lubhair
A short drive on from the lay-by is a car park for Loch lubhair. Be warned the surface is a little uneven and might not be good for your car! Sadly both of these lochs have suffered from fly-tipping, rubbish from wild camping and general litter problems.
