Loch Lomond Sea Plane
On a lovely summer evening in 2024, I took my second-ever flight on the Loch Lomond Sea Plane (see there website for prices and availability). I highly recommend this unforgettable experience, which is an excellent way to see Loch Lomond.
Flights depart from a jetty at Cameron House Hotel, a 5-star resort near Balloch.
I was on an Island Explorer flight, a 45-minute trip that took off from Loch Lomond, flew over the islands, and then headed across to Helensburgh, Loch Fyne, The Kintyre Peninsula, and back to Loch Lomond.
Thanks to the excellent weather conditions, we had beautiful views along the way, and we could pick out landmarks such as Portavadie, Loch Goil, Tarbert (on Loch Fyne), Gigha, Arran, Bute, and Gourock.
Eight passenger seats are onboard the plane, and the captain will assign you one. You shouldn't worry about where you sit; there isn't a bad view onboard. What is fascinating is how close places appear from above when you know how long the road trip is between them.
Flying to Jura
Loch Lomond Sea Plane also run trips to the wonderful Jura, landing to allow a couple of hours on the island.
The Sea Plane is a well-established feature of Loch Lomond, flying for over two decades. It's always good to watch it take off and land.
The Loch Lomond Sea Plane is one of our 101 favourite experiences in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, listed in our photo/guidebook, which you can purchase below.
