Firkin Point, Loch Lomond
This guide will let you know more about Firkin Point, Loch Lomond.
One of the most popular guides on the See Loch Lomond website is the A82 road trip, featuring the points of interest on the journey alongside Loch Lomond from Balloch north, one of those being Firkin Point.
Where is Firkin Point?
Firkin Point is between Inverbeg and Tarbet; it's a picnic spot with camping pitches.
West Lomond Cycle Path
Firin Point is on the West Lomond Cycle Path, and as you can see, there is a flat and level surface to cycle along. Read our complete guide to West Lomond Cycle Path for more information on the entire route from Balloch to Tarbet.
Camping at Firkin Point
There are camping bylaws in operation from March to September, so you will need a Camping Permit from the National Park Authority. Camping has been split into four areas, some by the water and further from the car park. There aren’t pitches, but instead, the pre-booking system ensures that the maximum levels aren’t exceeded, making it a more enjoyable camping experience. These pitches provide great views across the loch towards Ben Lomond. See below for toilet opening times.
Facilities at Firkin Point
There is a reasonable amount of parking, although this may fill on a warm summer’s day. Public toilets open 9 am – 5 pm from March – October and are closed November – February. From March to September (to match the camping season), a disabled toilet is open 24 hours. There are some picnic benches, and you could have a BBQ, please take your rubbish with you.
Reviews of Firkin Point
I like stopping here. One of the good things is the proximity to the A82, making it easy to stop and take a break safely, but when admiring the views, you are pretty close to the road, so there is traffic noise.
I looked at some of the Firkin Point Google reviews, which are mainly very positive.
