Camping in East Loch Lomond
Updated Camping Information for East Loch Lomond
This guide of camping options along East Loch Lomondside, first published in 2020 is updated for the 2023 season
This guide will help you to plan your camping experience along East Loch Lomond. As you’ll find, planning is the key to this experience, as you will need to book in advance for most of the camping pitches listed here.
Our camping listings start along the road between Drymen and Rowardennan, a distance of just 11 miles. This area is governed by the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs camping bylaws, which are in force from March to September.
Gartfairn Farm
A few miles before Balmaha, you’ll find Gartfairn Farm, a working farm with a small number of caravan and camping pitches. It has scenic views of Loch Lomond and its islands. It’s a quiet spot, away from the busier East Loch Lomondside locations.
Milarrochy Bay Camping & Caravan Site
Milarrochy Bay, a big lochside site, is open, and pitches should be booked in advance. Milarrochy Bay is a scenic spot less than a mile beyond Balmaha; read about it at the link below.
Cashel Camp Site
Cashel Campsite takes bookings from April to October through its website. The West Highland Way passes the entrance.
Sallochy
Operated by Forest & Land Scotland, Sallochy has camping pitches alongside the lochside for tents only. You will need to book at least 48 hours in advance using their website there is a maximum 3-night stay.

Lochan Maoil Dhuinne
In my opinion, this is the best mainland camping location along East Loch Lomondside, its very scenic, although not well equipped. You can book Lochan Maoil Dhuinne on the National Park website. Put in your desired dates, and if it is available, it will come up as an option. You can book a permit for the small number of pitches available.
The site is about 1.5km from Rowardennan, where you will need to park and use the toilet as there is no parking or facilities available here. It’s close to the West Highland Way footpath and would be ideal for a camping stop on the walk.
This area consists of a small peninsula with rocky headland and two small beaches on either side. A beautiful tucked away spot.
Rowardennan Youth Hostel
Check with Rowardennan Youth Hostel about their camping facilities.
